Trump vs. Harris: What Polls Reveal About the Leading Presidential Candidate Ahead of the 2024 U.S. Elections.
Trump vs. Harris: Where Do the Candidates Stand Among Voters?
Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris shook hands as they kicked off their presidential debate in Philadelphia on September 10, 2024.
Polling shows a tight race. Harris initially gained momentum after taking over the campaign from President Joe Biden. However, recent surveys suggest a close contest. According to an AP-NORC poll, Trump holds an edge in voter trust on the economy. The NYT/Siena poll revealed that 28% of voters need to learn more about Harris, while only 9% said the same about Trump.
The NYT/Siena poll has Trump ahead by 1% (48%-47%) but within the margin of error. Meanwhile, Harris leads narrowly in other polls, including Emerson College (49%-47%) and Morning Consult (49%-46%).
In critical swing states like Michigan and Pennsylvania, both candidates are neck and neck, further heightening the stakes as the election draws near. Polling from The Washington Post shows Harris and Trump splitting victories in key battleground states. However, close polling brings little comfort to Harris, given underestimation of Trump’s support in previous elections.
